DCI Drumlines of the Decade: The 90's - Part 3: 1994-1995

Welcome back to our "Favorite DCI Drumlines of the 90's" series, today we're taking a look at 1994-1995.  The drumlines in this segment were heavily featured on the first lot tape compilation I ever received (VHS of course), and will forever hold a place in my top drumlines of all time!

You can also find the other entries in this series below:

Part 1: 1990-1991

Part 2: 1992-1993

Part 3: 1994-1995

Part 4: 1996-1997

Part 5: 1998-1999

----------------------------

<<<1994>>>

Blue Devils

The year of the monkey (drumming)... Watching Roger Carter throw down some crazy notes while chewing glass inspires me to this day.  A stunning display of power from all sections.

Cadets

I absolutely love the individual section solos from this year (snare solo in the first video especially) but the integration between the drum sets (snareline) and the rest of the percussion section takes the cake... (second video).  If one word sums up this drumline it is: Precision.

Phantom Regiment

<whistle> DAMN! Clean rolls, amazing bass splits and enough implements/auxiliary equipment to fill a caravan...  Love it!

Madison Scouts

THIS IS DRUM CORPS, THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW (first drum corps show I ever heard an audio recording of... this was back when my primary instrument was the trumpet.  I was hooked instantly).

I wish I could find any video of the drumline playing show segments in the lot.  I've spent years ad-libbing on a pad, listening to show recordings and while fun, I would love to know what was buried underneath that wall of sound.

Crossmen

It was only a few years ago that I was exposed to this drumline and I love the intensity of the arrangement and performers.  The Premier tenors even sound pretty good which was a daunting task back then!

Velvet Knights

A jammin' Tom Float book and no boundaries = great success (7th place in percussion at DCI Semifinals - 15th overall!)

Is that a young Paul Rennick milling about?

<<<1995>>>

 Cavaliers

THE CLAW!!! (and how 'bout them singles...)

I just finished a summer marching band season where we did an arrangement of Holst's: Mars and I drew heavily from the Cavaliers rendition... namely, "You can never have too many triplet rolls."

Blue Devils

Best <insert BD '95 battery section here> ever?

If not, then DAMN close... Enjoy!

Santa Clara Vanguard

Santa Clara's legacies of "awesome bass lines" and "barely any bootleg footage of said bass lines" both remain intact...  (has anyone in the top 12 marched a 6-person bass line since?)

Madison Scouts

THIS IS DRUM CORPS: PART DOS, THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Velvet Knights

Another valiant effort by VK (9th place in percussion at DCI Semifinals - 15th overall) and some downright Rüde beats!

On to Part 4: 1996-1997...
